Abstract

The invention comprises laevo-rotatory compounds of the general formula <FORM:0685616/IV (b)/1> in which X stands for a piperidino, pyrrolidino or morpholino radical, and their salts; and also a process of preparing them by converting the racemic compound into the optically active salts of an optically active acid, e.g. d-tartaric acid, and separating the salts by fractional crystallization. Examples are given of the preparation of (1) l-2-pyrrolidino-4,4-diphenylheptanone-5 and its hydrochloride; (2) l-2-morpholino - 4,4 - diphenylheptanone - 5 and its hydrochloride; and (3) l-2-piperidino-4,4-diphenylheptanone-5 and its hydrobromide. The racemic compound may be prepared by the action of ethyl magnesium bromide or iodide on e.g. diphenyl - piperidino - isopropylacetonitrile or the corresponding amide.
