685,591. Rotary dashpots. STRAHM, R. Jan. 25, 1951 [Jan. 30, 1950], No. 1962/51. Class 108 (iii). [Also in Group XXXIV] A rotary dashpot, particularly suitable for application to office machines, for example to the carriage of a bookkeeping machine, comprises a closed housing 1, permanently substantially filled with liquid, and having fixed blades 5 rigid with the housing projecting substantially radially inwards. A rotatable element having a shaft 6 coupled to a part of the machine to be braked has blades 4 so shaped that they may move past the fixed coacting blades, whereby movement of the liquid set up by the rotating blades is arrested and a braking torque is applied to the shaft 6. The liquid, preferably oil, may be introduced into the housing under pressure.
