Abstract

1,267,768. Roller conveyers. KORNYLAK CORP. 16 March, 1970 [18 Aug., 1969], No. 12479/70. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F2] A braking roller comprises a stator having consecutive vanes 28 tipped in opposite directions, the stator being enclosed in a rotor comprising two adhered parts 34, 36. Vanes 42, 44, 46 are formed on these parts and the rotor is filled with silicone putty which is prevented from escaping by seal surfaces 52, 54. The silicone putty has the property that its resistance to deformation increases as the deforming force increases. When a number of braking rollers R are used in a gravity conveyer, Fig. 1, the putty will deform to permit a load L to move at any speed below a predetermined value but will strongly resist the movement of the load at a speed above this value. In Fig. 2 (not shown), a wheeled platform (64) has rollers (R) to limit the speed of the platform down a trackway. Other materials, such as gelatinous substances or grease, which resist deformation in the same way as silicone putty, may be used in place of the putty.
