Abstract
The invention comprises organo-silicon compounds of the formula <FORM:0685540/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an alkyl radical, R1 is an alkyl or phenyl radical, b is 1 or 2, c is 0 or 1 and n is 1 or 2, and a method of preparing the above compounds by reacting a halophenoxysilane of the general formula <FORM:0685540/IV (b)/2> wherein R, R1, b, c and n have the above significance and X is a halogen atom, with a trialkylsilane of the general formula R3SiY, wherein Y is a halogen atom and R has the above significance, by contacting the two reactants with an alkali metal. The process is preferably carried out in an inert solvent which boils above the melting-point of the alkali metal. In the examples the following compounds are prepared by the method referred to above:- Me3Si(p-OC6H4SiMe3), Me3Si(o-OC6H4SiMe3), Me3Si[2.4(Me3Si)2C6H3O-], Me3Si[3Me.4(Me3Si)C6H3O-], Me3Si[2.4(Me3SiO)2C6H3-], Me3Si(2-C6H5-4-(Me3Si)C6H3O-), EtMe2Si(o-Me3SiC6H4O-), EtMe2Si(p-Me3SiC6H4O-), Me3Si(p-Me2EtSiC6H4O-), and Me3Si(2-C6H5-6-(Me3Si)C6H3O-).
