Abstract
Dimethyl-bis-(phenylol silanes are prepared by reacting a dimethyl-bis-halophenoxysilane of the general formula <FORM:0685538/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an alkyl radical, X is a halogen atom and "n" is 0 or 1, with trimethylchlorosilane by contacting the two with an alkali metal to give a compound of the probable general formula <FORM:0685538/IV (b)/2> wherein R and n have the above significance, which is then hydrolysed. The group R may be a methyl radical and X may be chlorine or bromine. In the examples dimethyl-bis-(p-phenylol) silane and dimethyl-bis-(2-methylphenylol-4) silane are prepared.
