Abstract

685,422. Spraying fusible materials. KUNKLER, L. E., COOK, V. A., KUNKLER, R. E., and BALTIMORE, I. S., (trading as METALLIZING CO. OF AMERICA). May 10, 1951, No. 11039/51. Class 69 (iii). A variable speed wire spray gun includes a spray head 12, with gas inlets &c. and spaced wire feed inlets 38, 42, mounted on a movable frame comprising plates 40, 44 and 46, and an electric motor 26 which drives through gearing 30 a knurled conical wire feed roller 34. The wire 36 is forced against the upper conical surface of the feed roller by a pressure roller 68 carried on a lever 70 which is pivoted at 72 to the plate 46 and is adjustably secured at its other end by a threaded rod 74, Fig. 5. The plates 40, 44 have keyways which slide on keys or ribs 56 integral with stationary plates 50, 52 secured to the gear reduction housing. The plate 40 has a slot 58 coextensive with one keyway, and a screwed rod 62 passes through a tapped post 60 secured to a key. Manual rotation of a knob 64 moves the frame and spray head parallel to the upper slope of the knurled surface of the feed roller 34 and thereby alters the position of the wire on that surface to vary its speed through the gun.
