Abstract

685,377. Buckles. STEELS & BUSKS, Ltd., and HIRD, H: Sept. 18, 1950 [Nov. 23, 1949], No. 30028/49. Class 43. [Also in Group XXV] In a buckle of the kind having a backplate 1 to which one end 11 of a web 12 is secured and a slot 5 in the backplate through which another part of the web passes to be adjustably gripped by a pivoted leverplate 2, the lower edge of the slot 5 is formed with two flanged portions 7, 9 directed rearwardly substantially at right-angles to the body of the plate and separated by a central portion formed with teeth 8 that project forwardly to engage within a web passed through the slot 5. The back-plate is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 2, with a bottom edge provided with teeth 4 arranged to bite into the end 11 of the web when the blank is bent around it at 10, Fig. 7. The blank that provides the lever-plate 2 is provided at its upper edge with end portions 20 arranged to be bent inwardly around the cross-bar 13 forming the upper side of the slot 5 of the plate 1, the central portion 19 of the same edge being shaped to form a lug which projects outwardly to engage the adjacent portion of the web and force it against the teeth 8.
