Abstract
684.900. Cabinets; shelving. GRAND RAPIDS STORE EQUIPMENT CO. March 19, 1951, No. 6522/51. Class 52(i) Collapsable shelving, showcases, and the like include a foundation unit, Fig. 7, comprising a hollow vertical back post 1 formed at its front with a rib 2 flanked on each side by a vertical row of aligned openings, a horizontal member of inverted channel form being attached to the bottom of the post and having slots 11, 12 on its top face 7 and slots 8 on its side faces 6. The slots 8 accommodate clips 10, Fig. 5, which are screwed to the floor. The slots 11, 12 accommodate tongues 18 carried by bottom plates 13 which also carry tongues 20, 22 disposed as shown in Fig. 7 to engage the open front of the horizontal member. The plate 13 has a rear flange 15 defining a groove 16 in which lies a back panel 31, Figs. 11, 13 and 15. This panel is secured to the post 1 by a strip 24 embracing the rib 2, having panel-engaging flanges 26, extending the height of the post and having openings 27 coinciding with the openings 5. After the back panel is placed in position, these two openings are transfixed by clip members 28 which also have forwardly extending lugs 30 between which lie dividing panels 36. The fronts of the dividing panels are engaged in pilasters 32, the tops of which support bearers for shelves 49, Fig. 15, or runners 58, Fig. 23, for sliding glazed doors. The shelves 49 are supported by clip members engaging the back post through the openings 27, 5. When the runners 58 are provided, a stay 63 for the pilaster 32 is provided, the stay being fitted with a rear clip' member engaging the openings 27, 5. The top of the posts 1 may carry a finishing member 42, the detailed construction of which is described, Figs. 16-18 (not shown). Alternatively, the pilasters 32 may be extended to the top of the structure and support front bearers and the front ends of cross-bearers, the rear ends of which telescope into the tops of the posts 1. These bearers support glass or wood top panels, Figs. 26-41 (not shown). The front of the top panels may be provided with electric lamps.
