Abstract
684,826. Door-operating appliances; stays for hinged articles. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Aug. 20, 1951 [Dec. 1, 1950] No. 19585/51. Class 65 (i) A door 11 of a motor vehicle hinged at 13 to the body 12 of the vehicle, is urged to and held in the open position by means of a pair of links 23, 24 pivotec together at 26, and pivoted to the body and door respectively at 27 and 28, spring means 30 acting on the links to urge the lattet pivotal connections apart, and the pivot 28 being substantially aligned with the pivot 27 and the hinge axis of the door when the latter is closed. In the open position link 23 abuts a flange 34 formed on an extension of link 24. In a modification wherein the hinge axis is inclined to bias the door by gravity in the closing direction, pivot 28 is offset sufficiently outwardly from the line joining the pivot 27 to the hinge axis to counterbalance the door in the closed position.
