Abstract

684,395. Moulding-machines. GIBSON, W. A. March 21, 1949 [April 1, 1948], No. 7614/49. Class 83 (i). A machine for making moulds, cores, or other articles by blowing sand or the like into a core box, mould, &c., has a reservoir 18 for compressed air and a valve, for admitting the air tc the samd container 13, arranged in its head 17. The reservoir 18 may be annular and may surround a passage 19, both being open upwardly but normally closed by a diaphragm 22. Compressed air is supplied at 8 to the reservoir 18 and via a bleed port 24 to a chamber 25 so that the pressure above the diaphragm holds it down. After charging the container 13, swinging it about its pillar 11 and moving up a table 12 to clamp a core-box thereon and the container 13 against the head 17, the chamber 25 is vented at 9, the diaphragm is forced up and the charge of compressed air passes through the passage 19 to force the sand in 13 into said box. The vent 9 is then closed ready for the next operation. A spring may be arranged over the diaphragm 22 to ensure rapid closing.
