Class 126 [Also in Group XII] A device for supplying air through the wall of a chimney to direct inflowing air transversely of the flue gases comprises a tubular member having one or more channels in the shape of a truncated cone or pyramid and means for regulating the opening and closing of the channel or channels. A metal or cement block, Fig. 1, having an outer casing 2 is provided with a number of transversely arranged ducts 3 each in the form of a truncated cone, the device being arranged within a chimney wall so that the larger ends of the ducts 3 are towards the outside of the chimney. Gates 4 pivoted about a vertical axis are provided on the exterior of the device toclose the ducts 3. In an alternative form (not shown) the exterior of the device may be covered by a convex or concave perforated plate and the duct openings may be regulated by a second perforated plate which is placed against the block 1 and which may be rotated on a rod passing transversely through the device. In a modification, Fig. 3, a hollow tube 16 is slidable within a tube 15, the open end towards the outside of the chimney being covered with gauze 14 and provide with controlling louvres 22 hingedly mounted on a bar 9. The inner end 17 of the slidable part 16 is in the form of a truncated cone and is provided with regulatable openings 19.
