Abstract

684,058. Superheterodyne circuits. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1951, No. 1306/51. Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vi). A self-oscillating frequency-changer comprises a valve 9 having a parallel resonant circuit 13 tuned to the oscillator frequency, connected between grid and earth, a signal source supplying a second resonant circuit 5, 8 tuned to signal frequency and connected between the cathode and earth, while intermediate frequency output is taken from a further tuned circuit 10 connected to the anode of the valve. The signal frequency is lower than the local oscillator frequency, so that at the latter the circuit 5, 8 presents a capaciattive impedance, which in conjunction with the gridcathode capacity of the valve 9 causes the valve to present a negative resistance to the circuit 13 whereby oscillations are generated. Grid condenser 11 is selected to resonate with the circuit 13 at signal frequency so that the grid is effectively grounded at this frequency. The signal source comprises a triode amplifier 6 having the circuit 5, 8 as anode load, the anodegrid capacity of this valve being tuned out at signal frequency by means of inductance 4.
