Abstract

683,885. Loose covers for books. WELLS, A. J. April 26, 1950. [March 22, 1949] No. 7691/49. Class 16. In a protective book cover comprising two wallet-like parts adapted to constitute pockets for accommodating respectively the front and back covers proper of a book and which are interconnected by a part intended to cover the spine of the book, the wallet-like parts comprise tubular portions interconnected by a spinecovering portion, the outsides or mouths of each pocket being formed with an extending flap which can either be permanently secured to the outer face of the inner wall of the pocket or alternatively tucked underneath this inner wall of the pocket and over the inner face of the back cover. In the arrangement shown, the cover is formed from a single blank of flexible transparent material such as polyvinyl chloride which is folded and the edges (not shown) heat sealed or secured together by adhesive to provide wallet-like parts 1, 1, interconnected by a spine portion 2. Flaps 6, 6, which are folded over the longitudinal edge of the book cover proper, may be permanently sealed to walls 4, 4 of the parts 1, 1, or may be tucked within the respective wallets and the covers. The width of the portion 2 is such as to permit the cover being applied to books of varying thickness and the cover which is slightly stretchable may be applied to books of different heights. The cover may be fitted over existing dust jackets.
