Description

S. W. BRUNNER DISPLAY FOR BOOK PROTECTORS Filed July 30. 1958 Aug. 25, 1959 United Sltates Patent O DISPLAY FR B001( PRGTECTORS Sam W. Brunner, New York, NX.
Application July 30, 1958, Serial No. 751,924
2 Claims. (Cl. 2045-80) My invention relates to a display for book protectors. These protectors, which may be applied to book jackets or directly to books, are usually made of a substantially transparent, thin, flimsy, and very flexible material, such as substantially transparent sheeting of polyethylene and vinyl, for example, and hence it is diicult to display them effectively and satisfactorily in other than a at, horizontal position.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a display for book protectors by which the protectors may be suspended in erect position and in such fashion that they appear to be applied to a book jacket or book. Suspension of the protector is accomplished without mutilating or distorting the protector in any way.
A further object of my invention is to provide a display in which the protector is suspended through the medium of a sheet of material, such as a sheet of paper, for example, preferably bearing on one face printed matter descriptive of the protector, the material of the protector being wrapped about this sheet.
More specifically, my display is composed of a protector of the nature above referred to, the sheet forming the protector being provided along two opposed side edges with a pocket extending from top to bottom of the protector for the reception of the book covers. This is conventional construction. Assembled with this protector is a sheet of relatively stiff material, such as a heavy paper, for example, which extends into one of the protector pockets. This sheet is much less in width than the sheet composing the protector, preferably the Width of one cover of a book, so that the protector material passes across the face of the paper sheet, and the surplus protector material is folded back upon itself at the rear of j the paper sheet and so held by a short piece of adhesive tape, for instance. The paper sheet is so shaped and is of such a size that a portion of its upper end projects above the upper edge of the protector. This projecting portion may be perforated, for instance, and is available for suspending the display by the engagement of the sheet with the protector pocket, the sheet and protector being interlocked.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a display for book protectors wherein the protector can be suspended and displayed in an erect position and Without mutilating or distorting the protector in any way.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. l is a rear elevational View, showing the suspension sheet and protector partially assembled;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the completed assembled display; and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3e-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail,
2 designates the protector which,v as above pointed out,
2,901,103 Patented Aug. 25, 1959 is constructed of a substantially transparent, thin, flimsy, and very flexible material, such as polyethylene or vinyl, for example. This protector is provided on its inner face at its two side edges with pockets 4. These pockets, as is customary, are closed top and bottom and are provided for the reception of the edges of a book jacket or a book cover when the protector is in use.
6 designates a suspension sheet, a sheet of heavy paper, for example, or other suitable material, by which the protector may be suspended for display. This suspension sheet is preferably the width of one of the covers of a book or book jacket, so that it is considerably less in width than the Width of the material of the protector. The suspension sheet is longer, from top to bottom, than the protector and is cut away at one corner, as shown at 8, so that a portion of one side of the sheet may be inserted into the pocket 4, while the rest of the sheet projects above the top of the protector, as shown at 10. This projection or flap 10 may be perforated, for example, as shown at 12.
That portion of the protector 2 which extends beyond the suspension sheet 6, as illustrated in Fig. l, is then folded upon itself along the lines 14, for example, as shown in Fig. 3, and held in this position temporarily by a piece of tape 16.
Inasmnch as the suspension sheet is interlocked with one of the protector pockets and is, in effect, enclosed in the material of the protector, it will be apparent that the assembly may be suspended for display purposes without mutilation or distortion of the protector.
The front face of the sheet 6 is preferably provided with printed matter, as shown at 18, descriptive of the protector.
From the foregoing it will appear that l have provided a display for book protectors so constructed and arranged that protectors may be displayed in an upright position without mutilating or distorting the protectors or in any Way detracting from their appearance.
What I claim is:
1. A display for plastic protectors for books, said display comprising an assembly composed of a protector having a pocket along one side edge extending from top to bottom of the protector, and a suspension sheet enclosed in the material of the protector, a portion of one side of said suspension sheet extending into the protector pocket to be interlocked therewith, and a portion of said sheet extending beyond the top of the protector to provide for suspension of the assembly without distorting or mutilating the protector.
2. A display for plastic, transparent protectors for books, said display comprising an assembly of a protector and a suspension sheet, said suspension sheet bearing on its front face matter descriptive of the protector, the inner face of the protector along one side being provided with a pocket extending from top to bottom of the protector, one edge of said suspension sheet extending into said pocket to be interlocked therewith, the material of the protector being folded back upon itself across the rear face of the said suspension sheet, the upper end of said suspension sheet extending above the top of the protector to provide means for suspending the display without mutilation or distortion of the protector.
