Class 46 [Also in Groups VI and XXX] An extraction apparatus for sugar sections and the like comprises a tower or two towers connected by a transverse worm conveyer, an interrupted worm arranged in each tower, and at least two blocking members fixed to the wall of the tower between adjacent worm turns which extend nearly to the shaft and almost fill the space between the worm turns. The apparatus comprises two vertical towers containing worms 1 and 2. Blocking members 6 project from the wall of the tower between the turns of the worm, which is interrupted, to assist transfer of the material. Framelike movable screen members 10 are fitted to the wall of the left-hand tower at the level of the outlet for the extraction liquid. The material is supplied to the top of the left-hand tower and is fed by the worm 7 to an outlet at the top of the worm 2. The e extraction liquid flows in a counter - direction and is discharged through the sieves and screens 10. The blocking members 6 can be heated or act as inlets for water or chemicals for acting on the contents of the tower. To facilitate the transfer of material between the conveyer the edges 9 of the worms are rounded. Specification 683,834, [Group XXII], is referred to.
