Abstract

Regenerated cellulose fibres in the form of filaments, yarns, or woven or weftless fabrics are protected against deterioration by heatageing by treating them with a primary amine which has a boiling-point of at least 75 DEG C. and a melting-point of not over 150 DEG C., the amine being present in amount in excess of that which would react with the fibres, so that free amine is maintained in the fibres. Suitable amines include o- and m-phenylenediamine, p-aminodimethyl- and -diethyl-aniline, cyclohexylamine, 2,4-diaminotoluene, butyl-, amyl-, hexyl-and benzyl-amine, and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol. The invention is particularly applicable to the protection of regenerated cellulose fibre reinforcement of vulcanized rubber articles (especially pneumatic rubber tyres) against deterioration by heat - ageing (see Group XXXIV). The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the treatment of natural cellulose fibres (see Group IV (c)). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Regenerated cellulose fibres in the form of filaments, yarns or woven or weftless fabrics are protected against deterioration by heat-ageing by treating them with a primary amine which has a boiling point of at least 75 DEG C. and a melting point of not over 150 DEG C., the amine being present in amount in excess of that which would react with the fibres, so that free amine is maintained in the fibres.
