Mechanism for discharging material from endless band or belt conveyers in a direction laterally of the general direction of the travel of the material and of the kind in which an endless driven band having its faces upright extends transversely across the conveyer in the path of the material is characterised in that the endless band comprises upper and lower endless chains having a number of slats extending from certain links of one chain to corresponding links of the other chain, and a flexible strip secured to said slats. In the embodiment shown, material is discharged from an endless belt conveyer 10, Fig. 1, by an endless band 49, Fig. 5, secured to slats 48 extending between endless chains 40, 43, Fig. 2. The chain 43 extends around guide pulleys 41, 42 secured to spindles 32, 37 mounted in bearings 33, 36 carried on a bracket 34 fixed to a plate 35, whilst the chain 40 extends around sprockets 38, 39 secured to the spindles 32, 37. The spindle 32 is rotated to drive the band 49 by a friction roller 11, Figs. 1, 3, engaging the upper run of the cortveyer 10. This roller drives through bevel pinions 16, 17, a shaft 18 carrying a sprocket 22 which is connected by an endless chain 23 to a sprocket 25 on a sleeve 26. This sleeve is rotatably mounted on a fixed spindle 27 and carries a sprocket wheel 29 connected by a chain 30 to a sprocket wheel fixed to the spindle 32. The plate 35 may be swung about the spindle 27 so as to adjust the angle of the band 49 relatively to the conveyer 10. Specification 680,077 is referred to.
