Classes 64 (i) and 64 (iii) [Also in Group XXII] A gas-fired water heater has a finned heat-exchanger b which comprises a sheet of stainless steel folded to form an open-ended chamber of circular, square or other cross-section having spaced inwardly projecting fins tapering in radial length from a maximum at the top to a minimum at the bottom. The heat exchanger is formed by folding a single stainless steel sheet, shaped as a sector of a ring, to form a rectangular member having projecting from one face a series of parallel double-walled ribs which are triangular in outline. The member is then bent to form an open-ended chamber, and its meeting edges are welded together. The walls of each fin may be parallel and in contact with or very close to one another, or may diverge upwardly, the space between them being filled with a heat-conducting material. The upper end of each fin is closed by folding an integral tongue or flap on one wall of the fin over the other wall. The heat-exchanger b forms a liner for the water jacket a, and rests on a flange e on a stainless steel cylinder b lining the lower part of the jacket, A baffle h is provided.
