Abstract
682,623. Control of several motors; electromagnetic switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 15, 1950 [June 16, 1949], No. 14972/50. Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v) Two series traction motors, connected in series with each other are protected against both overspeeding and relative wheel-slip by a combined relay. The relay consists of a polarized blade 17 actuated by a potential coil 8 connected across the field and armature of one motor 1, and by an opposing current coil 14 in series with the motor. This protects motor 1 from over heating. In series with motor 1 is a similar motor 2 similarly protected by relay 18, 10, 15. The two potential coils 8, 10, also embrace a second magnetic circuit and are in opposition to actuate a polarized blade 23 to protect the system against the slip of one motor relative to the other. The two current coils 14,15 may be replaced by a single coil 19.
