Abstract

682,534. Electric speedometers. SANGAMO WESTON, Ltd. Jan. 18, 1951 [March 16, 1950], No. 6638/50. Class 40 (i). A tachometer for measuring the speed of rotation of a shaft 11 comprises a single-phase generator 10 whose output is fed to a voltage measuring device 13, and to a frequency measuring device 14, whereby low and high speeds may be accurately measured by the same instrument. The voltage measuring device 13 may be made inoperative at higher outputs by suitably designing the inductance of the generator, or by the use of a cut-out 20 disconnecting the meter 13 at a predetermined value of output voltage. The frequency measuring device consists of a ratiometer type instrument with one coil 14 fed via a condenser 16 and a rectifier 17, and the other coil 15 fed via a resistance 18 and a rectifier 19.
