Abstract
682,012. Cutting-out presses. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and PRATT, J. W. March 13, 1951. [March 14, 1950] No. 6315/50. Class 31 (i). [Also in Group XVI] In a power-operated machine similar to that described in Specification 525,288, which is referred to, for performing cutting-out and/or embossing operations on workpieces, e.g. shoe parts, a wedge block 99 is provided for disengaging a clutch bolt 77 to bring the machine to rest while a tool of the machine is in engagement with a workpiece, the wedge block being carried by a pivotally-mounted lever 95 so as to be movable to an inoperative position by means of a manually-operable change-over lever 205 whereby the machine can be brought to rest, by means of a wedge block 81 disengaging the clutch bolt, only after the tool and workpiece have been separated, the wedge block 81 being carried by a lever 211 pivoted on the same fulcrum 213 as the clutch-operating lever 83, and the lever 211 having pivoted thereto at 217 a latching member 215 engageable with a catch plate 219 fixed on an extension of the lever 83, the latching member being provided with an arm 221 carrying a follower roll. 223 engaging a cam 225 formed on the boss 75. A spring 207 retains the lever 95 in either its operative or inoperative position. When the starting treadle is depressed, the lever 83 is moved in an anticlockwise direction imparting a similar motion to the lever 211 which at this moment is coupled to the lever 83. The movement of the lever 211 carries the wedge block 81 out of engagement with the clutch bolt thus setting the machine in motion. Almost immediately, the latching member 215 is released and this allows the lever 211 to be swung back by means of a spring 227 to bring the wedge block 81 into position to engage and withdraw the clutch bolt when a full cycle of the machine is completed although the treadle may still be in a depressed position. When the lever 95 is in the operative position to cause the machine to stop after completing only half a revolution, the machine is re-started by releasing the starting treadle to move the wedge block 99 out of engagement. This is effected by moving the lever 83 in a clockwise direction to disengage the lever 95 by means of the rod 101.
