Abstract
A latex foam is obtained by aerating a mixture of 58 to 70 per cent natural rubber latex, and the remainder a rubber-like butadiene-styrene copolymer latex, the mixture having a solids content of at least 50 per cent. The preferred proportions are 63 per cent natural rubber latex and 37 per cent of butadienestyrene latex. In examples, petrolatum emulsion, casein solution, triethanolamine soap solution, zinc oxide suspension, sulphur suspension, zinc mercapto-benzthiazole suspension, zinc diethyl dithiocarbamate suspension, titanium oxide suspension, sym. dibeta-naphthyl para-phenylenediamine suspension, sodium fluosilicate suspension, sodium alkylaryl sulphonate, piperidinium pentamethylene dithiocarbamate and sodium fluotitanate are added to the mixed latices, which are foamed, poured into moulds and cured.ALSO:A latex foam is obtained by aerating a mixture of 58 to 70 per cent natural rubber latex, and the remainder a butadiene-styrene copolymer, the mixture having a solids content of at least 50 per cent. Such a foam has greater stability and different properties from the constituent latices of the mixture. The preferred proportions are 63 per cent natural rubber and 37 per cent of butadiene-styrene. The proportion of butadiene to styrene does not alter the final properties materially provided that the resulting copolymer is rubber-like. In examples the properties are given of foams produced according to the invention in which are added substances from petrolatum emulsion, casein solution, triethanolamine soap solution, zinc oxide suspension, sulphur suspension, zinc mercaptobenzthiazole suspension, zinc diethyl dithiocarbamate suspension, titanium oxide suspension, sym. dibeta naphthyl para phenylenediamine suspension, sodium fluosilicate suspension, sodium alkylaryl sulphonate, piperidinium pentamethylene dithiocarbamate and sodium fluotitanate.
