Abstract
680,568. Valve amplifying circuits. COLE, Ltd., E. K., and BURNARD, C. L. Feb. 15, 1951 [Feb. 16, 1950], No. 3955/50. Class 40 (vi). A tone control circuit for a low-frequency amplifier using negative-feedback is such that when the volume control is adjusted to give maximum input to the amplifier the negative feedback causes relatively greater signal suppression of the higher frequencies than of the lower frequencies. The Figure shows a valve A comprising the diode detector and L.F. amplifier stages of a radio receiver, the R.F. signal input being applied across the tuned circuit 1 to produce a rectified voltage across the potentiometer 2. The anode of the valve is connected through a negative feedback path comprising capacitor 5 to the high potential end of potentiometer 2 and the capacitor 5 is of such a value that its impedance is lowest for the higher frequencies so that when the volume is at a maximum so also is the negative feedback and the higher frequencies including interference noises are substantially reduced. As the tapping point of the potentiometer 2 is moved towards the low potential end the effect of negative feedback is progressively reduced. Specification 494,024 is referred to.
