Abstract
678,796. Making electrical-contact tips. METRO-CUTANIT, Ltd. May 4, 1951 [Dec. 28, 1950], No. 10516/51. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). In a method of producing tungsten contact tips, pieces of tungsten wire, the diameter of which is smaller than the diameter of the required tips, are heated and upset axially. The wire pieces may be upset between jaws which serve as electrodes for leading in heating current and which are preferably of tungsten. In an example, tungsten wire 2 mm. diameter is cut by a parting disc or shears into pieces 9 mm. long which are upset into tips 6 mm. diameter and 1 mm. thick at a temperature of about 1300‹ C.
