Abstract
678,702. Punching washers &c. MITCHELL, D. April 26, 1951, No. 9725/51. Class 83 (iv). In a press for making washers &c., each descent of a ram actuates means to cut a notch in the edge of the work-piece and means engaging the notch for feeding the work-piece beneath a stuffer plate 8. On descent of the ram a punch 25 cuts a notch 31 in the edge of the strap and a spring-pressed screw 30 engages a bell-crank 13 to operate a slide 18 with spring- pressed pawl 24 engaging the notch to feed the strip. The movement of the slide 18 in the feed direction is limited by a nut 20. A punch 26 forms a small hole 6 in the strip. On ascent of the ram the slide 18 is moved backwards and the pawl engages the next notch. When the ram again descends a notch and a hole 6 are made and the previously-formed hole 6 registers with a punch 27 which blanks out the washer leaving a hole 7 with which a spring-pressed pin 28 engages to prevent backward movement of the strip.
