Abstract
678,379. Electric filters. POSTMASTERGENERAL. April 13, 1951 [July 22, 1949], No. 19371/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (viii). An electric wave filter comprises two or more sections connected in tandem, in which at least one of the sections has a cut-off frequency which is different from that finally required of the filter, and in which another section or sections is or are provided to produce a required sharp frequency cut-off. For example a lowpass filter may consist of an elementary lowpass section, whose cut-off is higher than that required, followed by one or a succession of band stop sections to give the necessary sharp cut-off. A high pass filter can similarly be made from a high-pass section and a number of band stop sections. A band stop filter can be made by connecting high-pass and low-pass filters of this character in tandem. The performance of the filter can be improved by the introduction of simple resistance attenuators between the sections. One or more of these attenuators can be replaced by constant impedance equalizer networks.
