Sharing adjuncts.-A mechanism for moving upholstery springs from a coiling machine to end knotting means comprises telescopic arms I-VI, with grippers 14, pivoted on a loose bush 7 and oscillated vertically in slots in a frame 6 by cams 8,' 9. The latter are keyed to a shaft 4 oscillated from a cam 24. The frame 6 is braked by a spring- block 29 and is rotated when a pin 21 on the cam 8 engages a projection on the frame 6. A finger x controls the movement of the gripper 14 towards and away from the machines in conjunction with a spring 16. In operation, when cam 24 moves the crank 5, A-B, an arm 1 is moved towards a coil winding machine and the mechanism x pulls gripper 14 back. When the wire is cut, the mechanism x releases grippers 14 which engages the spring. During rotation of the cam from D-G the first spring is wound by a shunt guide machine, not shown, the arms remaining stationary. The cam moves G-F to lift the spring from the winding-machine. On moving F-E the pin 21 engages and moves the casing 6 to position the spring opposite the first knotting-machine, then, in sequence, the spring is moved sideways into the first knotting- machine, is knotted and moved out of the knotting-machine. When the cam again moves F-E the spring is moved to a second knotting- machine. On the next actuation of the cam F-E the knotted spring is moved to a collecting shoot. The gripper may be formed with the stationary jaws resiliently mounted on the carrying arms.
