678,190. Liquid-fuel furnaces. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING - SUPER - HEATER, Inc. Sept. 1, 1950 [Oct. 18, 1949], No. 21590/50. Class 51 (i). In a liquid fuel fired steam generator having a furnace chamber 10 and convection pass 12 lined with water tubes 21 and 30 respectively said tubes being supplied from a header 25, if the water supply to the tubes. 21 fails or is inadequate, fuel supplied to the burner 11 is cut-off by a thermally responsive element 50 in a pilot tube 40 disposed in the circuit of the feed water supplied by a circulation pump 32. The element 50 incorporating a pressureoperated bellows 62 is associated with a switch 63 arranged to open an electric circuit 64, 65 when the pilot tube temperature exceeds a certain value operating a control 53 to cut-off a motor 66 driving the fuel pump 67. The pilot tube 40 receives feed water through a constricted tube 42, discharging it through an inner tube 43 and tube 45 into a collecting header 26 and the safety device can be tested by closing the valve 47 cutting off the water to the pilot tube 40.
