Abstract

678,129. Hand shears. BUTLER, K. B. March 12, 1951. No. 5869/51. Class 30. In sheet-metal workers' hand shears, comprising a top blade pivoted to a lower blade and moving in the gap formed between the bottom blade and a lever member through which the pivot pin also passes and which is connected to, or integral with, the handle of the lower blade, and is secured to the lower blade, behind the pivot, by a bolt, screw or rivet, a distance piece being provided, the lower edges of the lever and distance piece do not protrude below the straight cutting edge of the top blade when the shears are fully closed. As shown, the pivot pin C passes through the top blade A, the lower blade B, and a lever D, on which is mounted the handle G of the lower blade and which is secured to the lower blade B by a rivet E, a distance piece F, being inserted, between the blade and the lever, to provide a gap into which the blade A moves when the shears are closed. The handles G are set at an angle to the shearing edge of blade B and may be integral with the lever and top blade or formed as metal pressings.
