Abstract
678,042. Multipling cables. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 19, 1951 [April 1, 1950], No. 8211/50. Class 36. A ribbon multipling cable is made by embedding a number of conductors in a single plane in thermoplastic insulating material by the application of heat and pressure, and then folding the strip to form a flat helix and treating it to expose wire loops at regular intervals. The flat strip cable may be made by laying wires previously coated with polyvinyl chloride sideby-side, and then applying heat and pressure to weld the coverings together. Some or all of the coverings may be coloured for identification purposes. Alternatively bare wires may be laid side-by-side between tapes of polyvinyl chloride, and heat and pressure applied to weld the tapes together. Preferably heat and pressure are withheld from the areas SP2, and in the region of line FB. The ribbon is folded along the lines FA, FB, FC (Fig. 4), to form a flat helix, and further heat and pressure applied. The insulation is then removed from loops L-L22 (Fig. 5), which are to be attached to soldering tags in the selector bank. ;If desired the insulation may be applied so that those portions of the conductors C-C22 which are to form the loops L-L22 are left bare. Specification 468,844, [Group XXXIX], is referred to.
