[Class 36] To prevent untwisting and " birdcaging " of the helically applied stranded wire sheath D of a trailing cable, one or more conductive tapes B are wound upon the sheath with a direction of lay opposite to that of the wires of the sheath, the turns of the tape preferably being spaced apart in order that the cable may retain its flexibility. In the construction shown a single tape of tinned copper 0.25 inch wide and 0.0006 inch thick is wound over the sheath with such a lay that a distance of 1.5 inches occurs between adjacent turns of the tape.
