Abstract

677,326. Cargo containers. PULLMAN (PATENT) PRODUCTS, Ltd. Feb. 7, 1950 [Feb- 7,1949], No. 3346/49. Class 18 [Also in Group XXXII] A cargo container 1, Fig. 2, is suspended by sets of multiple springs A, B within an outer casing 2 so that goods therein are insulated against shock and vibration. The four pairs of spring sets A perpendicular to the container axis are arranged in the form of a star, each pair of spring sets being attached at a common point of the outer casing diametrically between attachment points on the container. Four pairs of spring sets B are attached to loops 6 arranged symmetrically on the middle diameter of the container and are attached to loops 8 on the outer casing each pair of spring sets forming a V. Each set of springs comprises three tensioned concentric coiled springs 3, 5. 4 attached to common loops 7, Fig. 3, which are secured to the loops or anchors on the container and casing. The three springs are of progressively decreasing rate so that they may be selectively used for cushioning shock and absorbing vibration. In an alternative arrangement sets of compression springs may be used each set comprising a heavy gauge conically coiled spring and a light gauge parallel coiled spring concentrically held under initial compression between dished metal cups.
