Abstract
500,562. Boxes for packing fragile articles. ASTLEY, A. Aug. 11, 1937, No. 22051. [Class 18] The box, of the type having two resilient suspension systems between which the article is held, has one at least of the systems (as shown, the lower) consisting of three or more resilient elements 9, both ends of each of which are anchored at such different positions (7, 10) on the box walls that the elements define, in part or, as shown, wholly, those edges of an imaginary pyramid which are contiguous with the apex. As shown, four elements are used, consisting of two lengths anchored to the box base at their crossing point 7. The lower ends of the elements 9 may be anchored at spaced apart points. The elements 9 may be of rubber or may be helical springs, and may incorporate rigid portions, e.g. metallic links. The base of a thermionic valve 11 is received in a fabric cradle 16 which is secured to the box walls by elastic material 17 and rests on the elements 9. The top of the valve is received in a fabric cap 12 connected to the box walls by rubber bands 13 and detachable hooks 14. Windows of glass or celluloid may be provided in the box walls.
