Abstract

676,983. Glasshouses. BELL, O. H. Jan. 19, 1951 [Oct. 19, 1949; Feb. 8, 1950; Feb. 17, 1950], Nos. 26826/49, 3261/50 and 4146/50. Class 20(i). A glasshouse comprising a plurality of glass panels 3 hingedly connected to each side of a horizontal support 1 has means comprising parts 6, 7, 9 adapted to interlock when each panel 3 is inclined to its mounting on the support 1, and adapted to unlock when the panel 3 is moved to a given angle, e.g. by swinging it upwardly, to permit the panel 3 to be detached or slid along the support 1. The means comprise a channel section rail 6 secured to the top frame member 3a of the panel 3, and a plate 9 carried by a pillar 8 on the support 1 and engaging with a slot 7 in the rail 6. The support 1 has at each end a fin 12 engaging a slot 11 in a plate 10 carried by a vertical end prop 2 which is embedded at its lower end in the ground. The slot 11 accommodates two fins 12 and hence the glasshouse can be longitudinally extended. The prop 2 has pivotally connected at 15 two spiked side props 4. A loftier structure can be erected by resting the lower frame members of the panels 3 on a support similar to 1 and having a second, lower row of panels. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the plate 9 has downwardly extending side flanges which permit the panels 3 to be stable when upwardly inclined to the horizontal. According to first Provisional Specification the horizontal support is of H section and lies on its side, the rail being of right angled Z section, the web of the Z passing through the slot formed between downwardly directed flanges at the ends of the top arm of the H and the end of the bottom arm of the H. The glasshouse is provided with longitudinal and transverse horizontal side and end members, detachably connected at their ends by rings and bars, and the top horizontal member engages the vertical prop by means of tube and bar. The glass panels may be in a curved plane. According to the third Provisional Specification the side props have at their lower ends further side props attached by struts to the vertical prop. The means by which the various parts are interconnected is described.
