Abstract

1416309 Elevated railways WESTDOCK Ltd 6 June 1973 [1 June 1972] 25602/72 Heading B7L A mechanization arrangement, within a glasshouse having supports 8, 9 sunk in the ground in cement bases 10 at each side of a bed 11, comprises an elongate boom 1 having side members 2 connected by framework members 3 and strengthened by a framework 4, the boom having at each end a pair of pinions 5 engaging rack rail members 6, 7 and carrying at least one tool for tending the bed 11. The boom is driven by a motor (not shown) and is provided with clamps supporting various tools which may be driven by the drive motor or by separate drive means. Instead of pinions and racks, the boom may have wheels engaging rails. In another embodiment the boom is carried by vertical arms mounting the pinions at their lower ends and the height of the boom may be adjusted by pivoting the arms to alter the distance between the pinions. Alternatively the arms may be telescopic. The racks or rails may be formed by structural members or pipes within the glasshouse.
