In a type-lever mechanism designed for uniform key-stroke in both lower and upper case printing positions the key-lever 14 actuates, through a connecting rod 13, an intermediate bellcrank lever 12 mounted on a supporting bracket 15 horizontally displaceable along a guide pin 20 by a cam member 23 supported on an arm 6 controlling the movement of the type segment 4 from a shift key 27 through a connection bar 28. The shift-key 27, shown in the depressed position, Fig. 2, draws the bar 28 downwardly and pivots the arm 6, which is the lower of a pair of parallel arms 5, 6 carrying the type segment 4 for vertical case-shift movement. Type-levers 3 are pivotally carried on a spindle 2 and are operated by a link 10 extending from a pivot 9 and connected at 11 to the bell-crank lever 12 operated by the connecting rod 13 attached to a key-lever 14. When the case-shift key 27 is operated the rod 13 is moved to the right by a distance " a " through a vertical plane v to compensate for the different position of the pivot 9 in the caseshift position. This rightward movement is effected by the action of the cam member 23, Fig. 3, adjustably attached to the arm 6, which when moved for case-shift engages a roller 25 attached to a bracket 17 carried by the supporting bracket 15. The bracket 17, which is guided by rollers 18, 19 on the pin 20, is thus moved rightwardly along the guide pin 20 against the tension of a spring 26, Fig. 2, which returns the bracket 15 after the key 27 is released, into engagement with an adjustable stop 30.
