Abstract

308,462. Salter & Co., Ltd., G., Bache, E. W., and Grice, J. March 16, 1928. Platen-shift mechanism; shift-key actions. In mechanism comprising a platen frame shiftable by means of a vertically movable bar, the platen frame is locked in the normal position and is prevented from rebounding by means of a spring catch-lever co-operating with a projection on the bar. In the mechanism shown in the Figure, the platen frame 1 is connected to the carriage 5 by means of rocking arms 2, 2<a>, the arms 2 carrying a rail 3 engaging a roller 11 on a depressible bar 8 guided by a slot 9. The shift-key levers 16 have rollers 17 engaging projections 18 on a shaft 15 provided with an arm 14 having a pivot 13 engaging a slot 12 in the bar. A catch-lever 21 pivoted on a bracket 23 normally engages a projection 20 on the bar and has an extension 21<a> engaging a lug 28 on the arm 14. On depression of either shiftkey lever, the catch-lever is rocked out of the path of the projection 20, and the platen frame is then raised by means of the bar. On release of the key-lever, the catch-lever is returned by a spring 26 and again engages the projection 20 the platen frame being thereby locked and prevented from rebounding.
