Abstract

676,846. Rotary brushes; stocks. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 17, 1950 [Aug. 26, 1949], No. 20435/50. Class 19. [Also in Group XXVIII] Brush strips 3, 4, Fig. 2, of preformed shape are mounted on a backing plate 41 held by locking rings 43 and set screws 44 to body sleeves 32, 33. Adjustment of the brush shaft 26 relative to a suction nozzle 1 in which it is mounted is effected manually by turning a knob 12 and hence caps 20, 28 rotatably mounted in the ends of the nozzle and having eccentric apertures 24, Fig. 4, in which are pinned the ends of the shaft 26. The knob 12 has a serrated edge 11 and makes a friction fit with the nozzle, being held by a ring 16. The cap 20 fits in a recess 18 of the knob and is driven through a tongue 22 and a groove 21. The other cap 28 is rotatably mounted in a cup 29 secured to the nozzle within a rubber bushing 30. To assist friction in retaining the knob in any particular position a spring-pressed detent may engage a serration 11. In a modification the knob carries an interior spur gear which drives a meshing gear secured to a bearing 'having the eccentric aperture for receiving one end of the brush shaft.
