Abstract
676,380. Mowing and collecting grass. WALLEY & CO. Ltd., E. S., and WALLEY, F. G. Oct. 23, 1950 [Oct. 24, 1949], No. 27228/49. Class 6(ii) A machine for mowing and picking up grass and like crops comprises a gang of rotary mowing units and a conveyer, having one part travelling transversely to receive the mowings and another part travelling upwardly, to raise the mowings and deposit them in a receiver or on to a second conveyer leading to a receiver. In the form shown, five rotary type mowing units 1 are arranged in staggered relation on opposite sides of a floor 7 which receives the cuttings and which is continuously cleared by the slats 5 of a transverse conveyer 2 of endless-band type arranged to propel the cuttings to the upper end of an inclined plate 9, the cuttings then falling on to a second slatted conveyer 12 which delivers upwardly and rearwardly to a collecting vehicle. The conveyers are driven from the power take-off shaft of the tractor drawing the machine. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the plate 9 with its conveyer is extended upwardly and laterally of the machine for direct delivery to a collecting vehicle at the side of the machine without the use of the second conveyer. The lateral extension may be hinged for lowering to the side of the machine for transport.
