A rotary electroplating barrel of the kind in which small metal articles are caused to travel along the lower part of the barrel by the action of an internal helix c, has at one end an antechamber d provided with an aperture e in its periphery through which the articles are fed to the helix, and at the other end a, scoop h for withdrawing the articles from the barrel and a discharge duct i extending co-axially from the barrel. The scoop communicates through an aperture with the duct i which is provided with a helix for moving the articles along to an aperture m leading to a discharge shoot n. The articles may be fed to the chamber e intermittently through a shoot f. The outer wall of the barrel is of perforated metal which serves as cathode. In a modification the helix j and chamber g are not provided and the scoop is curved and extends from the helix into and along the duct to a position adjacent the discharge aperture.
