675,304. Bale-tie fastenings. SIGNODE STEEL STRAPPING CO. July 1, 1949 [Sept. 3, 1948], No. 17504/49. Class 146 (ii). A seal for forming a joint at the overlapping ends of a binder strap, is formed with a back plate 10 of substantially the width of the strap and two flanges 12 with one or more openings 14 lying wholly within the area of the flanges but with one edge 16 contiguous with the adjacent longitudinal edge of the back plate. When the seal has been folded about the overlapping strap ends 18, 20, narrow tongues 22, Fig. 3, of the back plate and the edges of the overlapping strap ends are offset inwardly at the openings 14 as by shearing or by shearing the back plate alone and bending the straps, the offset portions of the back plate and the ends not projecting through the openings, so that there are no outwardly-projecting parts from either the inner or the outer surface of the seal.
