Abstract

986,958. Buckles. SIGNODE STEEL STRAPPING CO. Nov. 14, 1963 [June 19, 1963], No. 45080/63. Heading E2A. A buckle for connecting two portions of flexible ligature 26 comprises a pair of sections 12, 13 each having a base member 15, 18 and two spaced side members 16, 17, 19, 21 connected to the base member the base members being joined along adjacent edges by an integral hinged strip 14, the strip having sufficient flexibility to permit the sections to be folded to a position in which one of the sections is superimposed on the other to securely hold the portions of ligature when each extends around one of the side members of one of the sections and under that side member of the other section which is adjacent the said one side member. In the construction shown the side members 19, 21 are joined by a connecting portion 20 so that a rectangular aperture is formed and this connecting portion has a projection 22 which extends between the side members of the other section when the two sections are superimposed to prevent displacement of the ligature from the side members 16, 17. The hinged strip 14 is thinner than the sections to increase its flexibility. In a modification the side members 16, 17 are also joined by a connecting portion.
