Abstract

A wear-resistant body used in a coal-breaking device consists of an austenitic steel having an Mn content of 10-25 per cent by weight in which steel a hard carbide, preferably of V or Ti, is finely dispersed in a quantity of 1-10 per cent by weight. In an example the material is formed by addition of 5 per cent of finely powdered V and 0.5 per cent C to a molten steel containing 12 per cent Mn, 1-2 per cent C and the remainder Fe. Specification 263,811, [Class 82(i)], is referred to.
