Abstract

674,698. Hose pipes. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. June 30, 1950 [March 29, 1950], No. 16377/50. Class 99 (ii). [Also in Group VIII] A laminated tubular article comprising a layer of a thermoplastic such as polythene and a layer of rubber is made by assembling the two layers with an interposed intersticed reinforcement, forcing portions of the thermoplastic through interstices of the reinforcement, and vulcanizing the rubber while causing it to form around or interlock with the extruded portions of thermoplastic. The rubber may be natural, synthetic, or a rubber substitute. The reinforcement may be open weave fabric, screening material, or a braid of textile cord or wire. A hose may be formed with a polythene tube 7 over which is braided a textile reinforcement 8. A rubber cover 9 is extruded over the reinforcement and the tube is subjected to heat and pressure, e.g. by sheathing the hose in lead and applying air pressure to the interior of the hose while heating the lead sheath. Alternatively the inner tube may be rubber and the outer polythene.
