Abstract
A sheath (1) of flexible, waterproof material, such as manmade fibres, is coated with a lining (5) of synthetic foam. Outside, the sheath is wrapped in a layer (2) of a plastic material which shrinks uniformly when heated. This material may be in the form of a cord, a flat ribbon, or a woven braid and is precoated with adhesive to form a single layer with the fabric. After being slipped over two hoses (6, 7) butted together, hot air, or an electric current passing through a wire embedded in the shrinkable material (3, 4) is applied and the sleeve shrinks over the joint, compressing the foam.
