Abstract

The vanadium content of impure liquid titanium tetrachloride is reduced by distilling the chloride in the presence of lead amalgam, calcium- or sodium-lead alloy, or fumed litharge containing metallic lead, the lead-base substance being in the form of granules, turnings or shavings. Examples indicate a weight of up to 30 grams, lead base substance per gram titanium tetrachloride.
