Abstract

674,176. Mechanical switches without quick action; switch cases; switch contacts. BEVO ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FELTON, A. E. April 20, 1950. [April 20, 1949] No. 10411/49. Class 38 (v). A rotary switch comprises a cylindrical body 3 having recesses 7 in its inner wall within which'are fixed contacts 8, and a rotatable member 11 carrying a radially-directed, spring-urged contact ball or, as shown, contact balls 14 urged apart by a spring 13, the balls and spring serving as an electrical connection between a pair of diametrically-opposite fixed contacts 8. The body 3 has an integral neck portion 4 for the operating spindle 5. The fixed contact strips 8 are inserted into the recesses 7 by passing each strip through a slot in the shoulder 9 between the neck and main portions of the body, until a cranked end 10 of the strip abuts the shoulder 9. The body 3 is closed by an insulating disc 15 having slots 16 through which the ends of the strips 8 pass, the disc and the contacts 8 being maintained in position by twisting or bending the ends of the strips. The balls 14 in entering the recesses 7 serve as a locating device for the various switch positions. If a single ball 14 is used the inner end of the radially-disposed spring is connected to a contact axially disposed on the drum and engaging with a spring urged brush.
