Abstract

674,161. Colour photography. KODAK, Ltd. Aug. 26, 1948 [Aug. 29, 1947], No. 22555/48. Class 98 (ii). A photographic silver halide emulsion suitable for use in colour photographic material contains a coupler for producing a magenta image and a green-sensitizing dye of one of the formulae wherein R 4 and R 5 each represent an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, X 1 is an anion, D 2 and D 3 each represent a divalent hydrocarbon radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and Z 3 represents the non-metallic atoms necessary to complete a heterocyclic nucleus of the quinoline series. The emulsion may contain a water-insoluble water-permeable material as disclosed in Specification 524,154, or the coupler may be incorporated by the method of Specification 541,589. Numerous high-boiling substantially water - insoluble crystalloidal materials are specified. Numerous magenta couplers are specified, including 1-p-sec.-amylphenyl - 3 - n - amyl - 5 - pyrazolone, 2 - cyanoacetylcoumarone - 5 - (N - y - phenylpropyl) - p - tert. - amylsulphanilide, 1 - # - naphthyl - 3 - amyl - 5 - pyrazolone, 1 - phenyl - 3 - dichloracetamido - 5 - pyrazolone, and 1 - (p - phenoxyphenyl) - 3 - p - - tert. - amyloxybenzamido - 5-pyrazolone. Numerous yellow couplers for the blue-sensitive layer of multilayer colour photographic material are specified, including N - (p - - anisoylacetamidobenzenesulphonyl): N- benzyl - m - toluidide, N - (p - - benzoylacetamidobenzenesulphonyl) : N - n - amyl - p - toluidide, 4: 4<SP>1</SP> - di - (acetoacetamino) - 3: 31 - dimethyldiphenyl, p: p<SP>1</SP> - di - (acetoacetamino) - diphenylmethane, n propyl - p - benzoylacetamidobenzenesulphonate, # - benzoylacetpiperidine, N - (# - benzoylacetyl) - 1: 2: 3: 4 - tetrahydroquinoline, and N - (# - benzoylacetyl) - morpholine. The red-sensitive layer may be as described in Specification 660,012. Numerous colour-developing agents are specified. The three colour-sensitive emulsions may be mixed instead of being coated as layers. Dyes specified are 1<SP>1</SP>: 3-diethyl-5-phenyl-6<SP>1</SP>-methoxythia- 2<SP>1</SP> - cyanine bromide and 11 - ethyl - 3 - # - carboxyethyl - 5 - phenyl - 6<SP>1</SP> - methoxy - thia - 2<SP>1</SP> - cyanine iodide. The emulsion may be of the ordinary surface-image type or of the internalimage type as described in Specification 581,772. Specifications 15055/12, [Class 98 (ii)], and 649,725 also are referred to.
