Abstract

660,012. Colour photography. KODAK, Ltd. Aug. 26, 1948 [Aug. 29, 1947], No. 22554/48. Class 98 (ii). A photographic silver halide emulsion suitable for use in colour photographic material contains acoupler for producing a cyan image and a red-sensitizing dye of one of the formulae: wherein D and D 1 each represent a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms,. Y and Y 1 each represent S or Se, -R and R 4 each represent H or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, Z and Z 1 each represent the atoms necessary to complete a benz- or naphtha-thiazole or a benz- or naphtha-selenazole nucleus, R 1 and R 3 each represent methyl or ethyl, R 2 represents a monocyclic aryl group of the benzene series, and X is an anion. The coupler may be incorporated by the method of Specification 541,589, or the emulsion may contain a waterinsoluble water-permeable material as disclosed in Specification 524,154. Numerous high - boiling substantially water - insoluble crystalloidal materials are specified. Numerous couplers are specified, including 2-chloro-5- (N - n - valeryl : N - p - isopropylbenzylamino)- 1 - naphthol, 2 : 4 - dichloro - 5 - (N - p - nitrobenzoyl : N - # - hydroxyethyl) - amino - 1- naphthol, 2 : 2<SP>1</SP> - dihydroxy - 5 : 5<SP>1</SP> - dibromostilbene, 5 - p - phenoxybenzenesulphonamido - 1 - naphthol, 8 - hydroxy - 1 - α- naphthoyl - 1 : 2 : 3 : 4 - tetrahydroquinoline, 5 - cyclohexylsulphonamido - 1 - naphthol, 2- anilidoacetamido - 4 - chloro - 5 - methylphenol, 2 - p - nitrobenzamido - 4 - chloro - 5 - methylphenyl, 3 - [α - (pl - tert. - amylphenoxy) - nbutyramido] - 5 - chlorophenol, and 5 - (quinoline - 5 - sulphonamido) - 1 - naphthol. Numerous red-sensitizing dyes are specified, the dyes 3 - 31-diethylthiacarbocyanine iodide, 3 : 31 : 9- triethylthiacarbocyanine iodide, 3 : 31-diethyl- 5 : 51 dichlorothiacarbocyanine iodide, and 3 : 31 : 9 - triethyl - 5 : 51 - dichlorothiacarbocyanine iodide not being satisfactory in presence of the colour couplers. Numerous colour developing agents are specified, including N- carbamidomethyl : N - methyl - p - phenylenediamine, N<SP>4</SP> carbamidomethyl : N<SP>4</SP> - tetrahydrofurfuryl - 2 - methyl - p - phenylene diamine, N<SP>4</SP> ethyl : N<SP>4</SP> - carboxymethyl - 2- methyl - p - phenylenediamine, 3 - acetylamino - 4 - aminodimethylaniline, N - ethyl- N - # - methanesulphonamidoethyl - 3 - methyl- 4-aminoaniline, and the sodium salt of N- methyl : N - # - sulphoethyl - p - phenylenediamine. The emulsion may be of the ordinary surface-image type or of the internal-image type as described in Specification 581,772. Specifications 15055/12, [Class 98 (ii)], 513,170, and 592,267 also are referred to.
