Abstract

PURPOSE: To form an image free of color staining and superior in color forming performance and light resistance, by using a yellow coupler of an active site substituted type consistinf of a specified compound in a dye image formation process of a silver halide photographic material using an atomatic primary amine developing agent.
CONSTITUTION: A compound having a sulfonamide or carbonamide with a nitrogen atom substituted by a univalent atom except H or an metallic atom or a univalent group in the phenyl ring of anilide of α-acylacetanilide is added as an active site substituted type yellow coupler to a photographic material in an amount of about 10W300 g per mole of silver halide. A suitable compound for the above compound is represented by formula I or II in which R1 is alkyl or aryl; R2 is cyano, halogen, alkyl, aryl, or heterocyclic, R3 is alkyl, aryl, or heterocyclic; A is halogen, alkoxy, or aryloxy; B is a substituted group of the benzen ring; X is a releasable group; and n is 0 or 1.
